funding for medicine as a second degree?

I'm currently doing a BSc in Toxicology, I expect to get a first or a 2.1 based on my performance in the last 3 years, with one year to go I am considering following my dream and going to a medical school. My question is is there any funding available for people who want to take medicine as a second degree in Scotland?

why not do the post grad fast track? it takes 4 years 2 years are funded by student loans and the other 2 are funded by nhs bursaries.0

I can't find a university in scotland that offers this course?0

I need to be near home for family reasons. Also my boyfriend and I were planning to live together after these degrees and he needs to stay in Scotland as he is graduating in Scottish Law so can't practice south of the border. Also having already been funded through the scottish system would I be allowed to switch and use student loans to pay tuition in English institutions?0

My mum reminded me of a credit union account she holds in my name. There isn't a big enough balance to just take the fees out but would a credit union loan be better than a career development loan or a personal loan? I believe i can get a student loan for living costs but not for fees?0

Just for anyone who searches for this in the future. SAAS have offered to pay the excess on my fees, i will pay £1225 (or whatever the standard rate for the year is) and they will top up to the £3125. The condition of this is that I do not have a degree that already leads to a profession so you can't do medicine after doing accounts like this.
Student loans will give me a loan for living costs based on my parents income (as i will still be under 25). No bursary but i will get the travel expenses grant, additional transport expenses for medicine and in 5th year I will get a bursary from the department of health for my full fees and some living costs.
I think the initial outlay is worth the career i will have at the end. For now i'm saving my butt off to reduce the student loan i will need and to put away for the later years when i wont be able to work as much as i do usually.0 -

I'm really please to hear that it's going to be possible for you to go ahead with your plans but I wouldn't save to avoid borrowing more on your student loans. Take out as much as you can so that you need to do as little paid work as possible while you're studying. Good luck with it all.0 -

swansea uni has recently launched such a course for students with a high 2.1or above in any discipline. i must admit, i had a wobble of temptation, but the same thing put me off this time round as it did when i was first making uni decisions - im not sure i could cope with the blood and gore! bit pathetic really but there we go
i know i have another year to go to complete my teacher training, but after a four year degree im really not sure i could cope with another 4 years of study either. know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
I love studying! My only worry is being judged against school kids for my application. When I said student loans I means bank loans for tuition fees, if i have the cash then i wont have to pay interest0

Ok, not to shatter your dreams, but I'm a final year medical student - don't do it!!!!!!! The job at the end is NOT worth the 5 years training. No accommodation anymore, no pay banding, nasty hours. Do dentistry and have a real life / a healthy bank balance!0

I can't stand teeth so I'm not going to be a dentist!
If you really hate it that much why are you still on the course?0
