I've searched google but there is so many I just don't know where to start. I just want to be able to play videos that I have recorded on my phone.

Anyway, once again, I recommend the Combined community codec pack. Comes with a ton of codecs for playing pretty much anything, and includes Media Player Classic, which is probably the best media player out there (Though VLC is equally as good).
While installing, you may want to set it to not change program defaults, so that media files still play in whatever you normally use instead of MPC.
