The Sainsbury sale that never was

A few days ago we were looking for a new digital camera. A Sony was advertised by Sainsbury which seemed a good deal so we bought it, or so we thought. We received an e-mail acknowledging the order and telling us to "sit back and wait for the order to arrive". The next day we got another e-mail to say that the camera wasn't available, and a long excuse about "goods subject to availablity" and so on. Basically, Sainsbury advertised goods that were not available.
Was anyone else caught out? Any suggestions about redress?

Whadya, welcome to the boards?
It could be there was a major demand for the product that could not be satisfied (I don't know about Sainsbury but sometimes stock control is not as integrated as it may appear). This happens and I don;t think that you have any redress since you have incurred no loss.
If you really feel annoyed about this then you could send an email or a letter off to them and they may give you a couple of quid in vouchers but more than likely they will just quote the T&C of the site .. the ones you agreed to when you completed the order.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
