 I've just given my machine a 95 deg wash without detergent as it was starting to get a bit smelly, but it's reminded me to warn everyone - when you do this, remember to turn the temperature dial back down afterwards....I once washed a load of 40 deg stuff on 95 deg because I forgot!!

Yes its ok to use malt vinegar but it smells stronger(not on your clothes when rinsed though. And its fine for whites because by time it gets to your clothes it has been diluted with the water.
  • I haven't had radiators to dry things on for years, but what I have got is an electric oil filled radiator that plugs into the mains.

I hang the washing on a clothes horse and place this over the radiator ( being careful to leave good ventilation so as not to overheat the radiator) and my non tumble dry things dry quickly and don't develop a nasty pong.

These dont cost a hugre amount to run and have an added bonus of heating a room at the same time in the winter.

:) Then do it a short while after a wash - if that water is stinky it means you've got nasty smelly crud inside your machine - it's this that passes into your clothes and is why the machine needs a maintenance wash.
