Paypal visa debit card

It's 'horses for courses' - If you are looking for a reasonably priced, low-maintenance card which is suitable for most 'everyday' purposes, then this one seems ideal.
I also appreciate that, being a 'VISA' card, may also have its advantages. My 'cashplus' is a 'Mastercard' whereas many of the other pre-pay cards on offer are 'Maestro' - both Maestro and Mastercard are, in fact, the same thing, albeit that maestro tends to be 'debit' whereas 'Mastercard' tends to be 'credit'. VISA make no such difference.
For me the biggest obstacle is that I would need a PAYPAL account - something that I have, so far, resisted with a vengeance. :rolleyes:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

DFW Nerd # 166 PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTS0 -
hi all
ive been looking at prepaid cards recently and this one seems like a good deal however i might want to use it for petrol... i know it says you cant use it to pay at automatic petrol dispensers (which i assume is pay at pump) but can you still use it to pay for fuel when you actually have to go into the petrol station shop to pay???
Ta!Aug £10 a day £0/£10000 -
I received mine today and the pin number came Monday. I applied for it on Friday so they are fast. It's run by The Royal Bank of Scotland and it looks like they simply accept a payment from PayPal as and when you top up. Topup via PayPal is not instant, it can take 24 hours apparently before it shows up. On the good side, there is a nice online account management facility and the customer service is an 0845 number. I did ring them with a query and got a nice english lady who confirmed she was RBS and not PayPal. I am glad of that as all dealings I have had with PayPal over the phone have usually ended up with me ripping hair irrespective of the language barrier.Does it say Visa Debit on it or "for electronic use only"? Are the number raised?
Just wondered what type of card they are issuing, I finally got accepted for one so it is on its way.
It just says PayPal, The number, Your name, expiry date and a Visa sign on the front. The digits and lettering are not raised. On the back it has Electronic Use Only. How much does it cost to set up?
You are charged £4.95 for the card. There is a list of costs, charges etc. at
http://www.paypal.co.uk/topupcardIf your paypal account is set to direct debit, does this mean that topping up online via paypal goes direct to your bank? Is there a fee for this?
It will use whatever you have your PayPal account setup for. Mine defaults to a direct debit followed by my solo card if that fails. But it will take from your existing PayPal balance first. Unless, like me you had a balance in US$ and it tried to take it from my bank instead. A phonecall to PayPal explpained I needed to exchange the currency online to UKPounds then it would use that. Stupid system really. It should convert automatically whether they are holding my money in UKPounds, Dollars, Bhat Yen or whatever.
Quite pleased with it though.0 -
I ordered one last night after about 4 attempts of telling me that they could not confirm my address. I have 3 forenames and had to try different combinations before it accepted it , in the end took no1 name only :rotfl:
we have a paypal account but in husbands name and tried to set his up first but would not let us, again saying could not confirm his address
he is on electrol role ok so not sure what happened so set up a new paypal account in my name, applied for card and paid the initial deposit through paypal and all ok. I think the paypal to top up system is easier and as I have it set up for my electron card the money goes through paypal right away although once card comes I will try again and see how long it takes to get to card, think it says 1 day, but thats ok it getting topup for free and no need to go to postoffice to do it.
Will still keep my cashplus card for minute though to see hoe the paypal one works lolTOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0 -
Sorry to bump this post. But I am having probs with this card.
My OH got his sister a card, and set her up a paypal account. He then put £30 in her paypal account ready to put on the card once she had received it. But now she has it, we can't work out how to transfer the money from her paypal over to her card.
Anyone with any ideas????

I have a current UK bank account and a registered UK telephone number.
I do not already have a PayPal Credit Card.
My partner or I are in permanent paid employment (minimum

You log into the top up card management system (not your paypal account) and click on the top up tab once you are in.0 -

But this is for their actual credit card and not their top up card. Anyone over 16 can have a Visa Pre-Pay and credit checks are only done for ID purposes. Paypal do a Mastercard Credit card, a debit card, a Visa Top-Up card and good old email addressed based Paypal!!! It looks good. Just a fee to buy it, no monthly fee, no usage fees, no top-up fees (if loaded via Paypal) so seems a cost effective way to get one.

As to the comments about restrictions, this is in place for ALL pre-paids and most debit cards. (Petrol pumps, not kiosks - car rentals, ongoing subscriptions etc). Its because using a credit card in these circumstances "holds" the funds and checks that funds are available before the transaction is actually put through. You cannot do that on a debit card or a pre-paid credit card.0 -
