Hi I wonder if any one can help, my 28 year old son has tried to open a Basic Bank Account with NatWest and they have refused him, and he doesnt know why, he is not a undischarged bankcrupt nor has he been convicted of fraud, he owes about £1500 on credit card and store cards but that is all. do you think there could be something wrong on his credit report, and if so how does he go about finding out and rectifying it. your help would be appreciated thanks

Do a credit check..
Experian offer them for a free trial (providing you cancel within 14 days or so). Sign up, check, and email customer services requesting they close your account
There may be something else he doesn't know!0 -

It's really easy to cancel the experian one, just a 2 min phonecall to a freephone number so it's worth itKavanne

:j just a quick update, my son went into lloyds tsb and was given a silver account straight away, he explained about not being able to get one at nat west and they put all his details on computer and told him they could offer him a silver account, hes a happy man he can now bank his cheque, his inheritance from his grandad who passed away in june, he has also ordered his credit report from experian just to see if ther is anything dodgy on it.
thanks once again for everyones help:beer:0 -
Silver acct? That costs 7.95 a month (after the first 3 months), he could probs have a free account instead (The Classic account: http://www.lloydstsb.com/current_accounts/classic_and_classic_plus_accounts.asp) He doesn't have to have an account he has to pay for, but I bet Lloyds didn't tell him that!!!Kavanne

should be able to downgrade the lloyds account - he should do so ASAP0

But don't forget that £7.95 gets you AA breakdown cover, mobile phone cover and travel insurance so it's not exactly a fee for nothing!PMA - Positive Mental Attitude
It works for me - you try it!0
