Hi all,
Not a clue about these...but one would be usefull! All I need is i guess 40gig hard drive, 500/600RAM (that's as technical as I get-please don't blind me with figures-I can only just understand the above!). Would probably attach a 'THREE' pay as you go dongle for web access.
I only really browse (1h a day max) & e-mail-hardly ever download stuff-no games, etc...
really don't care if it does not look 'trendy' or is not latest thing....any suggestions?? I seem to remember a web-site somewhere that sold refurbs (made up from discarded computers) & gave money to charity??
Any suggestions??
Thanks!

Either a refurb from PCworld/Curries, or one of the EEEPCs from Asus. The EEE is small, light, portable but low spec. You can have them for around £200, but they have very small hard drives, around 4Gb. Not much room for music and no CD drive, but its very basic :P
Example. It comes with Linux which will be a little different to Windows as you're used to it, but comes with Open Office and firefox so you can browse the internet, use office files and everything else.0 -
Or if you want the Windows XP version Toys R US have them for £199 in store and you could get PC world to Price Match + 10% to get a bit more off.
As mentioned the hard Drive is only 4GB but you can get 32GB SDHC cards which can bump it up. From what you say you do what do you need a 40GB drive for?The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

Keep an eye on HUKD. Just got a Dell for £200 the other day.:beer:Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

Hi all-cheers for help! Will take on board all comments. Seen quite a few on web for £100-£200 (some are refurbs)....so as keeping my main base unit for any RAM heavy/memory heavy processes (only thing I do is occaisonally copy/burn dvds).....will very probably use the THREE dongle as even with cheapest broadband (o2-as an existing customer only £7-50 a month) + line rental still works out cheaper...again thanks for the help/advice!0

Good luck, one thing to check is that the battery life with some refurbs is minimal. If you want to see a eee PC in action head to Pc World or Toy r Us as they seem to have them in alot of stores for you to play with..The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.
