just wondered if you think i should keep the pipes and rad white, or blend it in with the walls and paint it all magnolia? or maybe leave the rad white but pipes magnolia?
isnt it awkward having these pipes, i mean how are you supposed to paint behind them?? and it is kind of annoying knowing your only painting half the pipe coz you cant do the back.

I like to keep the radiators and pipes white. It's a kind of "trim" to the room.
But yes it's a hassle to do it! Especially getting to the awkward spots.
I've always painted the wall first and then put newspaper between the pipes/radiator and wall when I'm painting the pipes/radator to keep the wall clean. But I'm not pro and this probably isn't the right way to do it!0 -
hi bob, thanks for your advice. your way sounds like a good way to me! i think i need to pull the pipes off the wall as much as they will go and try to paint all the wall down to the skirting. let that dry then as you said put something in between wall and pipes then paint the pipes. i kind of agree about the white rad/pipes giving the room a trim. its just a couple of people suggested painting magnolia would hide them more.0

I don't know if this will help - I am not the painter in our house - but it is in my Lidl online newsletter which came today

Available from 18th August, maybe worth a try for £2.99?
Do let us know how you get on. We're exchanging contracts on a house soon and it needs renovating. For the first time we will have pipes like that, all our others have been under floorboards.0 -
If your pipes already have an undercoat on them, i would say to normally paint them in with the wall ie magnolia. Painting them in white gloss only makes them stand out and they are not a feature. Use a two inch brush of good quality ie Purdy brush, cheap brushes are imho are rubbish.0

hi tom, they had already been painted before so i sanded them down. i think i could get away with normal emulsion paint as i did not sand back to metal. the metal paint i have is water based white satinwood for wood/metal, so it isnt very glossy. its either that paint or the magnolia matt emulsion i can use.0
