'3' Mobile Cancellation/Pac Question

Just rang '3' to give 30 days notice ( out of contract ). I also wanted to organise my pac ready for transfer to new supplier.

What I was told doesn't make any sense ? Cancellation & pac two different things ( ok fine ) - If I request my pac between now and the cancellation point it over-rides the cancellation and the contract remains 'live' until I give a new cancellation instruction ( another 30 days ).

All I want is to give 30 days to terminate my contract and give the pac to a new supplier, but they've said I can't - I either have to cancel & lose the number, or get pac and after it's transferred then cancel giving 30 days notice.

Is this correct ?

No, you can either give 30 days notice. Or request your PAC, and once you use it it takes X amount of days to move over, once gone the contract is terminated.
  • Yes, sort of.

If you "cancel", the account will automatically terminate 30 days from today.

If you "get a pac code", the account will terminate 30 days from requesting the pac code - if you don't use the code within those 30 days, the account does not terminate however.

Therefore, if you've already handed in your 30 days notice, but say, 10 days along the line you ask for your pac code, the 30 days starts again - in effect you are stopping the "cancellation" and going down the "pac code" route instead.

My understanding is that you have 30 days to use it or if you don't it expires and you remain on contract - however, if you use it (i.e. give the PAC to another network) then when the number transfers over, now generally 2 business days, then the contract ends with the existing network on the day the number has been transferred. What the implications are for further charges with your existing network depends on whether you are beyond the minimum term - if within minimum term, you will have to pay until the end of the contract. If you are after your minimum term, I have found a refund has always been paid.

three no longer give a refund, even if you're outside of the minimum term. or, rather, they say they don't. i'm not sure how they can justify it legally, but they assured me that no refund for unused line rental was payable, even if you paid for a month but only used a day. just another thing to make them hateful, i guess.

with three the easiest thing to do is give 30 days notice, then request the sim turns into a PAYG sim on termination of the contract. that way the contract ends when you want it to, and you can request a PAC on the PAYG sim at your leisure.

I had £15 approx credit left on a contract I cancelled in March through a PAC (a couple of days past the monthly bill, therefore charged for a few days) - I asked them to transfer it onto another account and they did so without a fuss.
