The whole street had a power cut yesterday and after that the TV seems to be out of tune e.g cannot get channel 5 and the other channels are fuzzy. Not sure what happen to the video, it just went dead. Cannot switch it on. Will be grateful if somebody could help me with this. Is it possible I have to re-tune the TV? Have not idea how to do this and have lost the manual, usually when we buy a TV, the engineer set it all for us? Hubby is away and I do not want to touch it but am not sure he will know what to do himself. Thanks

looks like you may have to retune the tv, possibly the memory was lost after power cut, if you post the make and model number i should be able to help you retune. as for the vcr, the first thing to do would be check the fuse. If it has a removable power cable try swapping with another one from dvd player etc or get a packet of fuses but make sure you put in same fuse as was in it, likely 5 amp0

If after doing what ianian99 says and you still have no joy, then make sure you write to your electricity supplier. We had a similar situation a couple of years ago in our village and about 10 houses were deemed to have been 'over boosted'. Everyone got new appliances as nothing would work properly afterwards!0

Thanks for this advice, had another power cut this evening lasting 15 mins, cannot believe it is hapening again. Have to wait for hubby return to re-tune the TV in case I mess up and have a look at the video, it did cross my mind about the fuse. I had a look, it is not an ordinary fuse you cannot easily remove and replace. My electricity supplier is Scottish Power, are they the one I should write to. Thanks to all of you for your good advice.0

It's a Super Trinitron Sony model KV-24WS2U128WS2U. he video cassette recorder is a Sony as well. I have managed to replace the fuse with a new one and it is not working. I guess, it had to do with the power cut, could claim from house insurance but wonder whether it is worthy as the premium will go up again. It happened again this evening and lasted 15 mins, not sure who to contact regarding the electricy supply, is it the supplier as we use Scottish Power. Thanks for your help.0

Your TV is fuzzy because the video isn't powered up. You'll have to take the aerial lead out of the video and plug it directly into the TV until you've got a working video again.0

Thanks for this information. It did cross my mind last night about it. This morning I have swapped my bedroom video and it is now working. I have also phoned Scottish Power to complain about it. It seems strange that the video was working perfectly prior to the power cut. According to CS, somebody accidentally damaged the cable without informing them. I will just have to try and see how it goes. Thanks again.0
