What's a reasonable state for a second hand car to be in..

When the tyre tread has worn to the same level as the indicator, the tyre is illegal.
Not necessarily, sometimes the TWIs are too high 2 - 3mm. To be certain you should use either a purpose made tread depth gauge or a vernier scale.
Also when you look at the TWI you might think it is worn down to it, but you are actually failing it too early, because you don't realise there is still another 0.5 - 0.75 mm still to go.
Legal tread depth is 1.6mm
For some people all the above is not important, as they change their tyres at 3mm anyway. I always go down to the legal minimum, measured myself.0 -
Do you know what this site is supposed to be for help and advice not for know it alls like some of you lot above being idiots and thinking you are funny, sarcastic useless opinions should be kept to yourselves.
WE bought the car because we loved it, it is what we were after, right price, they traded in my old one etc..right time right place..
You will soon find with me that i moan at EVERYTHING and tbh yes i do think the car should be perfect for a newish car..wether i was right or wrong to take it on a test drive would not have helped with the prob it has now and i don't regret not taking it out as it is a lovely car.
The sunroof is not a big issue, all i meant was df didnt believe me when i said it had one, it is nice to have one, i wasn't moaning about it?
The brakes squeak when they are damp..so how would they have done that on the test drive i should have done when it was a lovely day?
Im sure most of you have cars and it must be so nice to have had no probs with them and all be perfect..i doubt that's the case but still..oh and wether you think the car is worth it or not is no interest to me as it's my car not yours.
as inactive has already mentioned advise was offered about this car and you never accepted it,so expect the slagging. and you are not really looking for advise, you just want to hear the right things.
at least the car looks good, surely thats all that matters?
doesnt matter if it runs/drives/stops or is infact road legal does it?

I see very little advise other than problems pointed out that i 'may' get with the car to which ALL cars have probs and tbh other posts i have put r.e cars have all had 'don't buy becasue of this that and the other' if i listened to you lot i wouldn't have a car!!
Lauren_1 you must be one of the few women i know who knows a lot about cars, good luck to you unfortunatly yes i am 'one of those drivers' and rely on the garage..bad luck hey?!
I LOVE the car, the probs with the brakes has been sorted and all well, the tyres have 1000k left df's brother said, seeing as i drive it about 6 miles a day it has lots of wear left and unless i have a puncture i should hope it has more than a few weeks left, looking at it, it is not noticibly worn otherwise i would have pointed it out..i am not that daft, although i'm sure you will not agree!
Again for all of those who know it all about cars you should be helping not slating, wether you think i was right or wrong to buy the car really is no business of yours and doesn't change the fact i love it..there is nothing else wrong with it so i am happy!
i'll make sure i go on the MG forum next...least they are helpful!0 -
dont forget low mileage tyres will last less miles than some rep car on the motorway all day long0
