Floor-fitter won't return to fix his shoddy work

He fit a laminate floor a few months ago in our hallway, kitchen diner and lounge which has creaked because he didn't leave a big enough gap. He came back and rectified the hallway but I think he realised the size of the job and has been very elusive since.

On two occasions when he said he was coming he didn't show up and it's got to the point where I don't believe a word he says. I really want to get back at this bloke for treating us like this. He fits floors for Floors-2-Go who I have had a right go at, because they are continuing to use him. The branch manager told me to complain to their head office but when I did this before I got nowhere, possibly because they have bigger problems on their hands.

Could someone please advise me on how to get this man back to rectify his poor fitting. I get the feeling that he thinks that if he can stay away for long enough we'll just forget about it.

    How did you pay ?

If you paid Floors2go directly to include the fitting, it's their responsibility to see the work is completed satisfactorily. If you paid by Credit Card put the matter into dispute with your card company, stating an unsatisfactory job, and inform floors2go in writing that you are doing this. If you paid cash to the fitter you haven't got much chance of him coming back.

I'd go with what Tom_Jones has said, but if you've paid with cash, depending on how much it costs to put right, I'd send the fitter a letter asking him to put it right or you'll be getting his work put right by someone else and billing him for it, then if he doesn't pay, take him to the small claims court.
But like I said it all depends on how much it'll cost to be put right.

Floors2Go typically have a book of recommended floor fitters for the job, and book one for you. In other words, they act as the middle man (and charge you around £4 per square foot extra for the privilege!), and whilst they might be an option when looking to redress the situation, I think you need to be dealing direct with the floor fitter.

Don't mess around. If the job's shoddy, just go to the Small Claims Court. No messing, no fannying around, no waiting weeks for a reply. Swift, hard, decisive action is needed immediately. You're the one out of pocket and with a shoddy floor, you shouldn't have to put up with it.

You've given him a few chances to fix the problem, and it appears he isn't doing so. Regardless of the excuses he comes up with, business is business (they'd be quick enough to quip that at you if you were late with payment / ill etc), so it's time to sort this mess out.

I see where this person is coming from but he if he isnt going to put it right then he will not then you can seek compo then he will and can pay a quid a week or month so you end up with a crappy floor and out of pocket . you need to pester him to come back be plesant if you have to its the best and easiest in the long run
