Are Barclays Liars?

I had a call from Barclays a while ago, they told me Id gone over my O/D limit by £3.50. They hadnt written or anything and this was the first I knew about about, so I was suprised to hear it was the collections dep calling. No problem I said and I gave them debit card details to bring it back up, The chap on the phone was very nice about it actually.

Checked my credit file and barclays have recorded a big red AP (arrangement to pay) on it presumably trashing my score. Is that right? surely it should have been a '1' it was in arrears for less than a week.

  • Presumably they wanted an arrangement to pay the full overdraft not just the excess so you could say that what they have done is correct.

No, They only asked for enough funds to bring it back up to the O/D limit
  • Barclays collections will only phone regarding a current account if:
    - You are over your od limit by more than £50
    - You havent made a credit to your account for some time, interest can take you od.

Unless its changes within the last 6 months. Sounds like the latter to me.

The latter is the case but is it right that they recorded an AP on my file?
  • Then I suggest again that what they have put on your credit files is correct.
Whilst they have only asked you to repay the excess overdraft, the fact that the account is not used regularly and that somebody called you suggests to me that their Collections department is working on the case.

To get rid of this you only need to repay the O/D and your file will marked as settled.
  • I just felt it was an abuse of the system to record an arrangement to pay on my file when no such arrangement was made.

If they had called and said "we want £x each month" then fair enough but as it stands they asked for it to be brought back up to the O/D limit and to "keep an eye on it in the future"

What they have done now is trashed my credit score and any hope they had of me paying it back in full in one go from a BT.

Surely an AP means no creditor would touch me now? Ive got a great file full of nice green 1's for the last 6 years and now this!!
