Tiffany perscription glasses

My DD & I were in Bluewater recently & saw an optitions that had the new Tiffany glasses & sunglasses in.

The glasses are about £200 & with the lenses & other bits'n'bobs £100, a pair works out at nearly £300.

BUT she loved them & being a trendy 21 year old she HATES wearing glasses, but would happily wear these.

Now if you expect them to last two years, they work out at under £3 per week, so not too awful.

BUT has anyone seen any better deals on them?
I live in Surrey, so any home counties or south east location is good.

Thank you:beer:

i think you need to have words with your DD!! first the obsession with designer make up, now the requirement for designer glasses!! i'd suggest you let her buy them with her own money or encourage her to live within her means!! without wanting to be rude, she's sounding a tad over indulged!

as far as cheaper glasses go - i always get mine at costco, but then i'd never dream of spending £200 on the frames (my lenses cost a bomb at my prescription so the frames have to be much cheaper than that for me to afford a pair!). i don't know how up to date their designer stuff is!

you should also be careful in suggesting that all 'trendy' people hate wearing glasses.... it can get the backs up of some of us who wear glasses, and also since they're now another fashion accessory, a very poor excuse!!!

(this is well meant btw - not trying to have too much of a go, but she does seem to have you wrapped around her little finger in terms of spending excessive amounts of money atm!)

She IS buying them with her own money, sorry did I not make that clear.

Admittidly she did ask me to buy them, but I bought her Moonson ones a couple of years ago, when she was at college & as she earns nearly as much as me anyhow, I told her she would need to buy them herself. Yes she does spend a lot on designer clothes, makeup ect, but shes a 21 year old girl, I think their are a lot worse things she could do with her money, she will probably never have this financial freedom to indulge herself again (or at least not while young).

You know what, I actually have sympathy with her being short sighted.
But then I am too & I HATE GLASSES:o , always have, I could never get used to wearing them. I wear contacts most of the time, but if sometimes I have to take them out & wear glasses I do not feel right with them. I now have started to need them over my glasses to read.

Shes not being horrible to people who wear glasses, we are both of us short-sighted & both personally hate wearing glasses.

I'm lucky I get on with contacts, she doesn't. So I have no issue with her getting a pair of glasses shes happy to wear. She has to wear them ALL the time, she doesn't have the luxury of putting in contacts when she wants too.

So does anyone know where to get the best price on these.

I don't think that is overindulging on something you wear on your face every single day of the year. It is the first thing people see and so she needs to feel comfortable. I buy the designer ones from spec savers, and they work out quite cheap really in comparison - about £120 a pair inc lenses, and I buy them when they are buy one get one free, so £60 per pair.
But I used to wear lenses and spent more on them than I did on glasses!
Has she considered laser eye surgery? I know some people are scared of it, but it is £300 per eye, and then she will never have to buy glasses again, which over a life time is a big saving. It would also mean she didn't have to worry about not liking glasses!

I know what you mean about wearing them, I just walk around half blind most of the time cos they don't feel right on my face.

Have you checked if Costco do them? They have really reduced glasses, my Mum got a Gucci pair for £85 for the frames.
  • Don't know about the frames but it might be worth pricing around for the lenses, it may work out cheaper getting them glazed elsewhere. Was the £100 for standard lenses, coated ones, high index (thin lenses)?

I did wonder this, but I wondered if another optition would not want to do the lenses as they hadn't sold me the frames?

It was up on £100 for standard lenses, with a non scratch coat (I don't think there were any more "extras" for that price.

Quite expensive I thought (the eye test cost might be in that though).

That's quite a lot. It would be £51 for scratch-resistant lenses (£39 for standard, + £12 for hard coat) into your own frame at specsavers (where I work, don't know about prices elsewhere).

Some places refuse to do "reglazes" but most will be happy to do it.

I bought my last pair from www.goggles4u.com they only cost me £13.50 and that price included frames, lenses, antiglare, UV protection, scratch resistant coating and shipping.

I don't think they do designer brands but they do have some really nice frames on there and for that price she could change every so often.

I really must order a second pair as spares (I'm very clumsy :D )

I agree. I have worn specs for 31 years (am now 33) and I spend about £400-£500 per pair every couple of years but then I have a shocking prescription (think one step off a stick and a Lab called Honey!!) so they cost me a fortune but I like to get a pair I am really happy with as I have them on every single day, and it is usually the designer ones. It's like saying to someone shave your head as it's cheaper than going to the hairdressers..of course it is but you wouldn't do it for your self esteem would you!!!!!!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I too love the designer labels but my budget doesn't stretch to them and I would never buy specs in a retail shop now anyway seeing how how much cheaper they are online.....anyway I got my last pair of glasses from glassescrafter, they don't do Tiffany but they do have marc Jacobs, DKNY, Armani.....mine are Miu Miu. Average price is around £50 - £70 including lenses...bargain I thought!! Good service too.

Take a picture of her wearing them then go into Specsavers and also look online and see if they have anything the same.

    No, I'm not kidding!

£300 for a pair of glasses, plus insurance in case they get broken at that price!!

Why not go halves on LASIK surgery for her - then she won't need glasses for a long time? :p
