Hi this is my first thread though I've been with MSE for a while. I need some advice!
In February my wife started back at work part-time as she had finished her maternity leave. The local council had not been informed she was part-time and began to pay her a full wage. After two months we realised what had happened and arranged a payment scheme to repay back what had been overpaid to us by the council.
Four months on, we rang the council about something that seemed stange on my wife's wage slip. We found out that instead of taking the money out of my wife's wage they had been paying her extra. We now owe them over £1800 and I'm enraged at their mistake. We have to pay for their oversight. They tell me we still have to pay them back! That will take a little while.
They have apoligised and they will be sending me the breakdown of what we owe them. Is there anything more I can do?
I need some advice!

Hi, even though the L.A. has made an overpayment into your wifes salary they are entitled to it back, unfortunate i know!! But i would be glad they are allowing you to pay it back gradually, some L.A. would just take it back out of staffs wage, sometimes without notification!
Its crap but this is how it is, even though it is their mistake.0 -
