Confused.com

Not sure if anyone is aware when you do a search for insurance on confused.com your credit report is checked and marked that it has been looked at.

I found this out since I had a look at my credit report and it appears:
Royal Bank of Scotland on behalf UKI partnerships have looked at my report. All I did was do a search for insurance to look for the cheapest.

I'm sure they should have done an unrecorded enquiry not a search.

  • Hi there

In their privacy policy (and I think you have to tick a box to say you are happy to proceed and have read the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy before you can proceed) it states:

    Credit searches - Insurance

Many insurers operate a credit scoring system and will carry out checks with credit reference and fraud prevention agencies. These checks will be made regardless of the way you request the quotes from us and not just because you are using our service. These checks may include electoral roll and credit information. Some insurance checks are registered as general insurance searches and may be viewed by other credit or insurance companies if you apply for their services.

Other than the fact that it's really quite sad that I read through and remembered seeing this, I would just like to confirm that I am not connected in any way with Confused.com. I believe they are owned by Admiral Insurance and I don't work for them either!!!

  • Hello, this is Confused.com and we’d like to address your concerns regarding credit checking.

Just to set the record straight. Using Confused.com DOES NOT affect your credit score in anyway. If you can see that an insurer has made an enquiry with a credit rating agency, what you are actually looking at is regarded as an “unrecorded enquiry”. Basically, an enquiry may be made by an insurer to help determine the payment method of a possible customer, however the enquiry is not considered a material enquiry and as such does not affect your credit record. Usually you wouldn’t be able to see this enquiry, however we did learn that RBS had initially left an accidental “footprint” when the wrong code was used when making searches with Experian. This mistake has subsequently been rectified and the request, whilst you may have seen it, does not materially affect your credit rating.

I do hope that this helps to put your mind to rest, however if you have any further concerns or questions about this why not call us? We’re always happy to help 0870 6001044.

    Hi

The search appears as RBS on behalf of UKI Partnership.

I spoke to Experian and it is an actual search that was made on my credit file. It does not appear as an Unrecorded enquiry.

But as suggested by your post RBS had left an accidental footprint, I have contacted them so hopefully they will able to rectify the problem.

    Thanks for clarifying.
