Good afternoon::eek: My OH is a plumber/CORGI here in the southeast and installs Vaillant and Viessman products (but not the EcoTec Pro as it has only a one year warranty). BG's prices are always well in excess of anyone else. My OH's typical gravity to mains conversion install would cost under £3000 and would include a wireless programmable roomstat, lagging of hot water pipework, Boiler Buddy, scale inhibitor (recommended by Vaillant etal for hard water areas), powerflushing, electrical connection and testing,Building compliance notification, completion of the Benchmark Log and removal of all waste materials associated with the installation.Whether ME bonding and plume management is necessary is dependent on a site survey. Gas supply might also need to be upsized and the mains flow/pressure should be tested before a combi is specified.

Get quotes from independent CORGIs recommended to you by a source you trust. Always check registration with CORGI . More info on the installation and specification of gas central heating is available from the Energy Saving Trust

I recently undercut BG on a Worcester-Bosch combi swap by £1,800 for exactly the same spec.

When BG chased the customer up for the order confirmation he told them this. Their response was to "beware of cowboys" and, interestingly "rouge traders".

Your BG quote isn't too bad for BG though. Putting the combi in the airing cupboard makes it a doddle to do. So, in my opinion, they are only about £1,000 overpriced.

Like I said, not too bad for BG.

I'm not an expert, but having recently had quotes from four companies (including British Gas) for the installation of a completely new gas ch system (combi boiler, five radiators, wireless stat, removal of old storage heaters and tanks etc) I can say that BG appear to be very expensive - their quote was £4,200, the three independents quoted in the range £2,200-2,400. You'll find this opinion echoed elsewhere on the forum.

I'd agree with Canucklehead - find a good, recommended, independent CORGI!

    Puff,

I agree with the others that an independant is a potentially a good option however being quite risk adverse myself i wanted the comfort of my install being done by a company whose brand i knew. I had quotes from a range of companies including BG and eventually went with npower who now install boilers. I originally heard about them via an email offering cheap services - Martin then put this on his weekly emails. I thought that if they offer servicing at a good price they must be reasonable for installs (and they are).

They undercut BG by a fair chunk, i can't remember the actual amount as it was a few months ago ( a few hundred pounds) but what clinched the deal for me was the quality of the boiler (a vailiant) and the 5 years warranty that i recieved in with the price. They even sent me a CO alarm a few weeks after as a thank you.

The service was good, they completed the job quickly and didn't make a ridiculous amount of mess. The chap that came to quote originally was polite and not pushy, he genuinely wanted to give me the best deal (i felt) that he could offer.

I was really happy - has anyone else had a good quote from npower? I'd recommend a quote if your in the market for a new boiler. 0800 0722 999.

Let me know how you get on

They're offering a free 5 YEARS PARTS AND LABOUR WARANTEE on all their boilers until the end of August. It has to be installed by one of their accredited installers through their website.

I bought a class leading Greenstar high efficiency boiler for a medium sized house installed and supplied for 1680 pounds including vat including their warantee .

Let me know what you think.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Iv just had a new boiler fitted in my flat,

boiler was moved from kitchen to cupboard in hall, old boiler disposed, old hot water tank removed, flu built to go out through the attic and through the roof, the new boiler is a combi and a cant remember the name of it off hand (im in work just now) something like vekego compact HE or something like that.

    total cost.......£1800!

so im shocked at the price BG quoted you, i would of dropped of my sofa if i was quoted that. It pays to shop around and ask around for reccommendations, thats how we got the guy who did ours.

    Luv H x

Mum and Dad have just had a quote over £3000 from B/gas -they have just moved to a one bed flat, where the kitchen water and heating is off gas boiler but bathroom for some reson off elec immersion heater. They took out a boiler plan and following the initial service this chap came round to quote for them to see if could extend to include the bathroom.
This quote is for new boiler (although existing only 2 yrs old) and take away immersion -don't know if anything else as dad got huffy when said should have got another opinion before signing -just dont want to see them ripped off. Can't see why pipework cannot just be extended? maybe depends on existing boiler -I don't know?
