Dell CS any good??

Had a laptop delivered Friday that won`t boot up, also a couple of other minor problems (power plug loose and network cable very hard to push in).
What are my chances of getting a replacement rather than repair?
paid by DC rather than CC.
Thanks

i think the best people to talk to are Dell.

i personally have had no issues getting replacements or repairs. The orginal post in this thread has a very very slim chance of being about money saving. The post is more than likely to ask a question that google could answer better than any of us.0 -
well you may be able to just return and get a new one if you wish anyway, you may be within the period to just return it and say you do not want the product any more.
but on the other hand you do have warranty, so they may give you a new one, but it all depends on how broken it is, they will always try and fix it first0 -

Am waiting for a initial reply via email before ringing. Just wondered what others experiences were.

i used to order from dell on a weekly basis when i was selling kit myself. never had a problem. if something was DOA, it would get replaced. the only issue you might have is if the laptop is a custom build, or there is a shortage of the model you ordered (in which case they may just replace the motherboard/etc)

It`s RTB warranty. They want to try and talk me something on the phone first. No idea what they can talk me through when it won`t even start though.
If it needs to go back, I don`t see why I should have to wait for a repair when it arrived faulty. The spec was changed slightly from the basic, but only took 4-5 days to arrive.
Never used them before, what`s the quality usually like?

personally, i recommend dell laptops to everyone i advise about these things. i've owned three dell laptops in the last 7 years, all of which are in perfect working order. only issue ive had with one was corrupt hard disk sectors, but reformatting (and marking off the bad sectors) and reinstalling resolved that.
quality-wise, i (personally) try to stay away from the bottom end models, but build quality on the mid-high end ones are more than adequate... only matched by the high end ibm/lenovo units IMO.0 -
@ wayne, it all really depends on what you are using the laptop for,,
i had one and i found that it didnt meet my needs, i used it but found it become very slow a lot quicker than expected,,,
and due to the way dell make their laptops, expansion is a very minimal so i found myself getting something else.
i would never advise anybody not do buy one though, just think about it before you buy it.0 -
Thanks guys.
Looks like a bettery problem. Done tests over phone and it booted up fine with battery removed. With battery attached it froze when desktop appeared and made a strange rumbling noise.
During the tests (F12) it stopped when testing the battery (just stopped the test dead).
New battery on the way which they `think` might solve the problem. We will see.
Thanks again.0
