Sky cable thingymajig (I'm a woman, I have no idea!)

Options
My Dad lives in a new build flat.

On the wall is a box for his main aerial and a box for Sky. (Or should I say a plate for each on the wall with a hole in each:confused::o )

We have a spare Sky box and card, so I'm wondering how he can hook it up where he lives.

All he needs from the look of it, is a cable to go from the Sky box, to the box on the wall, so does anyone know where to get one from please?

    Hi,

Maplin are quite good for this sort of thing and are in plenty of high streets, this one might do the trick. Alternatively if you need a longer length or need to purchase online there is 10m one here.
I have purchased cables from Kenable before and had no problems.

Make sure the wall socket actually goes to a dish, it might well be a cable TV outlet and in that case will your Sky box will not work!

Would it be a cable TV outlet if it actually said 'Sky' on the plate?

I'll have a look at those links though thanks! :)

As basill said, Maplin are reasonable prices for a high street store. A small electrics shop might be cheaper though.

Does the sky connection on the wall have a "screw in" type connector, or is it the same as the tv socket?

It looks the same as the TV socket.

I'll get OH to pick one up from Maplin, the 1.5m one would do, so if it doesn't work, it won't be that much money wasted.

    Thanks guys :)

If it looks like a tv socket (just push the cable in, no screwing required, the cable above WONT do.

It's possible that the socket isn't wired up to a sky dish, or you need this cable - http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=29533&&source=14&doy=11m8

The sky box has a screw connector (called F plug), and if the wall has a "normal" socket then you need that cable.

Give it a go - it might work. If it doesn't keep the receipt and packaging and you will be able to take it back!

With this sort of thing I have found it can save a bit of time if you pop round to ask the neighbours what they are using. If, it being newbuild, there actually are any yet!
