I Pod Not Syncing With New Laptop

Options
Can anyone help?....

This is the first time I've tried to sync my new laptop to my video ipod, 80GB. Actually, I've been attempting it for a few days. I moved my itunes library over using my hard drive.

It says it is syncing but it's doing absolutely nothing. I really don't understand i tunes at the best of times and I'm really struggling with this. I don't understand either how you can have two ipods hooked up to an itunes library...... i think I'll buy a book.

However, for now, why does my ipod say it's syncing but isn't doing anything at all???

Would be grateful for any help or advice.

Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

Thank you for the link, it doesn't seem to solve my problem though. Would appreciate more suggestions!

Hard to identify a specific problem so simplest thing may be this.
It will wipe your iPod. If I understand you correctly, everything's on the laptop anyway, but if there's anything on the iPod you want to keep, don't do this!
With the iPod plugged in, click on it on the left sidepane in iTunes. It will show the iPod info - somewhere here there will be an option to restore it to factory condition. Select this. It will do what it says. Once that's all done, unplug the iPod. When you switch on you'll have to choose language etc, then plug it in to sync and it should copy your whole iTunes library over.

Hi Alan, the only problem with this is that I have an awful lot on there, and it took me absolutely ages to find all the album artwork. The music itself is really in a bit of a mess and I don't know why things don't group properly. I will hold on til later and see if I get any other responses. I'm very grateful for your suggestion and will try it if it looks like this is the only route I can take.

OK, lets forget about 2 iPods for the moment. You've moved all of your music from an old computer to the new laptop. Can you see all of your music in your iTunes Library (make sure 'Library', or is it simply called 'Music' these days, top of the list on the sidebar at the left) is selected. If this is all of your music, and you can get some of the tracks to play OK, then your music is safe. There's a little button at the bottom left that flicks up a little box that shows the artwork too BTW.
If you are now sure that all of your music is on your computer, you can then restore the iPod - this will wipe the iPod but NOT the computer.

Just wanted to give an update to this problem. I have finally found the solution. After restoring the ipod and uninstalling itunes and the library on my laptop, the problem is with a folder created by itunes in my photos. It automatically puts in a folder called Ipod Cache (or words to that effect). By deleting it and starting afresh, this solved the problem. Apparently it's a known problem with Vista. This is what caused the syncing to go on forever and not actually do anything. Thanks to those who offered advice.
