1st credit card advice

in Credit cards
I'm a student at uni, and looking for a bit of advice about getting a credit card.
Thankfully I'm just about OK money wise, so I'm looking into getting a card more for the extra piece of mind when shopping online. I would be looking at buying online on the credit card then paying anything off straight away
Obviously any chance to get some freebies for little extra effort would be welcome
I've got current accounts with nationwide and HSBC.
Any tips/guidance on a card to suit my situation
Cheers

If this would be your first credit card, you have a limited credit history, so from the lender's perspective you're something of an unknown quantity. You probably need to be more concerned about actually getting a credit card, rather than trying to select the best card for freebies, rewards etc.
You have a current account and presumably you're registered on the electoral roll at your current address. The bank which holds your main current a/c - either Nationwide or HSBC - may be the best place to start
