Things To Do in and around Haslemere

Hi,

We (young couple) are staying in Haslemere for three days towards to end of August and are wondering what to do with our time - any ideas? We like walking, quaint shops, villages, pubs, museums, cultural sites etc....

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi
It really depends if you have a car or not as public transport is pretty hit and miss around here. However, this is how I'd probably spend a few days ( if I had no kids and free time!) - firstly a walk round the devils punhc bowl with a picnic is a must. Also, try and see the work they are doing on the tunnel - you can easily spend a few days watching the trucks earth moving ( much less boring than it sounds!) - access it by walking south down the A3 , away from the punchbowl, just after the garage on the rhs, there is a marked path on the left that takes you to the look out.

The you could have mooch around Haslemere itself - shops are a bit pricey but the georgian town centre is really lovely and there are some nice cafe's etc to sit outside and a good bookshop ( not a chain)

Then, if you have transport, Midhurst is worth a visit - again, a nice town with a great array of charity shops!

In terms of museums , you have a few to choose from - our favourite is the Weald and Downland which is between Chichester and Midhurst (about 30 mins away), there is also a little local museum in Haslemere itself.

Blackdown is another area for nice walks and there are lots of lovely pubs nearby - the Mill in Camelsdale is popular.

As for villages - Petworth is a bit of a way out but has lots of expensive antique shops for window shoping, Grayshott is a lovely living village with a lovely pottery and a great pub ( also a good selection of charity shops!), Milford has a great garden centre and food place called Secretts and can be accessed by train , as can Godalming which is another town - a lovely riverside town.

I think that might help you pass a few days! Enjoy!
