Citi Shell Mastercard application issue

I've just applied online for a Citi Shell Mastercard - on submitting the form I get this message:

"Thank you for taking the time to submit an application for a Shell MasterCard from Citi.

However, we have identified an issue while processing the information you provided.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Card Services on ... quoting the reference given above, where we can assist you with completing your application form"

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a rejection or just a query with the application? Will they contact me if I don't phone them (it would suggest maybe not...)?

My guess is that maybe the message is caused because I recently moved flat - according to the council I was added to the electoral register on 1 August, but I wonder if they're using out of date info?

Have you got a thumprint(password) or CIFAS marker on your credit files?

No, I just tried calling the customer services number and they said they needed to wait 3 days before they could tell whether the application had been received.

Rather than wait I just tried to apply again, and got the more usual 'decision within 7-10 days' response, so I guess we'll see what happens.

    Thanks for your help.

Oh you should not have done that, that is an extra credit search on your file, try a different cc company for a card.

I'm guessing the 'we have identified an issue' may mean that the first application didn't even get as far as the credit search stage.

I've not applied for a card for quite a while so an extra search won't make much difference.

I'm not after just any CC - I've got a selection already - my interest in this particular card is for the 3% cashback on fuel (Shell are local and quite competitive to where I now live so this will be a worthwhile extra saving).

I got a letter today saying I'd been accepted for the card. Fairly low credit limit but as I'm only planning to use it for fuel that's not a big issue.
