Setting up homeplugs but LAN icon disappeared

Under Network Connections all I have is the Wireless Connection.
When I set up the homeplug on the laptop I'm using now, there was a LAN icon ready and waiting for me, but not on the my desktop PC.
I've checked Device Manager to see if there's something there that should be enabled. Under Network Adapter, all I can see is my wireless adapter and, if I view Hidden Devices, a list of WAN miniports.
Can anyone tell me how I can restore the LAN icon so that I can connect to the Internet via the homeplug?
