Beetroot are my favourite veg. After onions and spuds but you get the picture.
Take the leaves off, and any dangly roots.
Put into boiling water for about 15-25 mins [depending on size]. Until you can get a knife in with little resistance and the skin comes off.
Pour out the water and rinse in cold water until they are cool.
Rub the skin off.
then, cut up into pieces, add a sprinkling of cumin and some mayo.
Mix and eat pink beetroot salad. Best with a cheese salad as a side dish.
They taste nothing like beetroot that you get in the shops, in case you were wondering. Hopefully, nothing like your old diet.
I don't know about juicing, someone might be along in a bit but I wouldn't waste my beetroot on juicing.0 -
The diet was horrid and along time ago something that i would really rather forget, but funny how these things affect you I have only just got back onto sweetcorn 20 years later and tuna EEERRRGGGHHH !!!
Thanks for the advice I'll give it ago if I have no responses about juicing.0 -
I have juiced beetroot - add to juice with pineapple, apples, celery, lemon slice and a bit of ginger and add about 0.5" beetroot and juice all - comes out red and you dont taste it - its fab.Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

Yep I juice beetroot with apple, celery, carrot & ginger aswell. Lovely."I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again."

Roast beetroot is lovely, nothing like the stuff you get in the shops, I have also made beetroot crisps, again very nice, but they do turn the oil pink!0

no you leave it raw, dont cook it. just slice about an inch thick and put it in the juicer, skin and all.0

Beetroot juice is also good with orange juice and ginger - tastes a little less earthy!
Beetroot juce is suppoised to be very good for your liver, but don't panic when your poo goes red - you are not bleeding!0 -

Roasted beetroot is delish when roasted with buternut squash and red onion. I eat a lot of it raw in salads too. It nice mashed with other veg too.
Not as keen on it pickled though
And I'll second the red colouring of passing wasted both 1 and 2.*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150 -
Just pickled beetroot for the first time(first time grown too). Used two recipes, one for the beet and one for the vinegar. Was much easier than anticipated assuming it tastes OK when ready. Anybody know how I makebeetroot juice with the rest as all my leads seem to come to a dead end?
Thanks in advance0
