Yes - they have the same computer systems - in fact the screen the staff see is dual branded as Halifax and BoS.

Also you can logon using either the BoS or Halifax site to access online banking.

The only difference is under the kilt.....:D
Jokes aside, yes you can do business with them and I have been told that BOS personal banking is managed by it's sister company Halifax, I have just switched current accounts from A&L to Halifax recently, so far so good.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
  • Just be aware that Halifax still has a lot of agencies - not full branches. I would have thought you could only deal in Halifax accounts at these places.

Halifax is now a divison of Bank of Scotland plc. They are both the same company.

Halifax agencies can't always handle BOS transactions. My local Halifax is an agency and after being told by the BOS help desk I could use any Halifax (including agencies), I went along to deposit a cheque. The Halifax agency said they couldn't do it had been told not to process any BOS transactions.

I called the BOS helpline back and told them the news and was passed to a supervisor who phoned the Halifax agency to find out what was going on. The answer was that Halifax Agencies' computer systems had not all been updated to handle BOS transactions so I could only reliably use Halifax branches and ATMs with my BOS stuff.

If you want to use a Halifax agency, better phone and check with them beforehand.

If you have a full current account you will be able to use counter facilities as you would in Scotland.
You wont be able to pay BoS credit card over counter. you will need to use online/telephone banking.
You cant pay Giro Credits over counter as you would at BoS - Halifax not a clearing bank
You wont be able to use instant deposit machine (IDM) with a BoS card. They should be upgraded soon though when they get rolled out in BoS branches north of the border.
You will be able to make queries, administer accounts, apply for overdrats and change address etc

I work for the Halifax for 2 months after moving from Bank of Scotland where i had been for 3 years.

    Hope this helps
