Booking holiday apartments directly - Europe

I am planning our annual December getaway and instead of going through Maestro Vacations, I would like to book an apartment myself and hopefully save quite a bit in the process.
I need a beach, I need sun and I need to be able to get there in around 4hrs or less.
Any tips or leads would be much appreciated

The first thing you need to do is decide what country and ideally area you want to go to based on weather etc. Then look at the flights available and the cost, this may cause you to change your mind re the destination. Once you have found somewere to go that is not too expensive to fly to just start using google and put in resort name and the word 'apartment'.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Make sure they can take a Visa card, or sterling cheque - as I said in another post we hit problems renting privately because of problems with overseas banks handling foreign currency cheques badly, even after we paid for the cheque!:mad:Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Have you tried www.holiday-rentals.co.uk
I was using this site to look for an apartment recently. They seem to offer places all over the world. From the site you can often find a link to the owners own websites rather than booking through holiday-rentals.
Hope you find something!Norn Iron Club Member 3300 -
Clicking through to the owners website just gives you more details on the property, pics etc, it doesn't matter whether you send the enquiry through Holiday Rentals/the owners website etc, the enquiry goes directly to the owner anyway.0

The Canaries would be an obvious choice and ticks all the boxes you are asking for.

That's what I am thinking too! We went to Tenerife last year and I was trying to do something different but I think maybe stick to what we know. I have been looking at that holiday rentals and the ones that are affordable all say no kids  So just have to keep looking and hoping something comes up. Haven't even check flight prices yet but I know they will be more expensive than normal because of the kids breaking up from school.DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0

I've used https://www.ownersdirect.co.uk to book a place in France with no problems. Their website covers Sapin and I'm fairly sure the Canaries are included. It's my problem, it's my problem

And it's my problem if I have no friends
