Not sure where to put this so i thought he would be ok- feel free to move it and to moan if you think it should be elsewhere!

Ive seen a car for sale its at a Garage(family firm) and its marked up at £9995,
What im wondering is, what sort of price to these types of places "knock off" and what price i should go into offer?

do they have an amount they drop off, would there be no chance at all of me getting it for say £8500

I know all i can do is ask but wonder if there are any traders on here that could give me a heads up?

    Hello Butlers1982

Your thread will be better suited to the 'Motoring & Public Transport' board, so I'll move it across.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

depends on what the car is actually worth and not what its marked up price is, i recently bought a used car, one trader did'nt reduce a penny and actually the car was sold next day for the asking price, another car i bargained £300/- less as I thought that was what the car was worth. I doubt any trader would be so desperate to reduce £1500/- if they did I would have doubts about the car. I dont think any trader will reply, unless they are ex-traders as they would not want to give that kind of info for customers. anyhow you could always give it a try and tell us what is the result. u can also check usedcarexperet.co.uk for guidence

9k would probably be closer to what the trader is looking for but 8.5k would be a good place to start haggling at i would imagine.
im not a trader but im sure harveybobbles will be along soon enough.

    depends what it is

if its a fantastic model that sells easily and is in great condition they will know it will sell easy

if its a not so popular model in a funny colour or something then theres more room to bargain

As has been imtimated the OP needs to do some more research. Check out Glasses guide (think you can still get in via Vauxhall website) and autotrader (lower end prices).

The other thing to consider is, is it a high CO2 rating if so you can probably haggle a lot harder than if it its a small low emissions car.
