My computer is extremely slow on start up, and a dialog box asking me to connect to Btopenworld (which I no longer have now on BT broadband) keeps popping up. I am wondering if this could be the cause and if so how to remove it?
Does anyone know.

What operating system (OS) is your computer running?
In Windows, there's a startup editor called msconfig, which you can run from the Run box on the Start menu just by typing its name and hitting Enter. If you're using Windows 95/98/ME/XP, I can give you some assistance with this.
There's some articles on Microsoft's website about using msconfig: click here for a list of what I found.
I don't have Windows Vista or Linux installed on either of my machines, so would rather leave those to someone who knows more about it.0 -

Reluctant_spender's dead right - I just had a quick look at that linked site, and it contains a lot of tips.
Perhaps it's a good idea to try Msconfig first before opening up the case, especially if the machine's still under the manufacturer's/builder's warranty?0
