Debit Card for Building Society

I have a building society account where my earnings are paid into. When I wish to buy things online this is a problem. There is paypal which is fine; but without a debit card it takes 7 days to transfer money so instant payment is impossible. Also, some sites do not accept paypal which is a pain. The cash card that comes with the account can only be used to make withdrawals from hole-in-the-walls.
So I want a debit card which is connected to my building society account, however, my building society do not do debit cards.
Is it possible to set up a debit card with another bank, say Lloyds TSB, and somehow connect it to my building society account?
What other solutions may be available? Closing the building society account and going with a better bank?

You could get a prepay credit/debit card. Then transfer/deposit an amount of monies when you intend to buy stuff online.
or getting an account with another bank that'll give you a debit card.0 -
You can't connect any other bank's card to your building society's account.
Your 2 options are - continue as you are now (if they can't offer you something better) or open a new bank account and transfer your salary there.0
