If you've ever done a balance transfer card, Egg ask you if pay National insurance. Answering yes to this prompts another question asking if you want PPI - this is a simple tick box. It used to be the case that this was ticked by default - could you have taken it out this way without noticing? I managed to take it out this way inadvertently a couple of years ago by clicking too quickly through the balance transfer screens and had to phone up to cancel it.
  • Egg used to employ a 3rd party company to ring you up offering 'free' PPI for 3 months etc - hoping of course that you would forget to cancel.

Could this have happened to you?
  • thank you for the replies!

jones-no this def didnt happen as dh is hardly ever at home to take calls like that!and when he is here he will NOT take calls from call centers, he hangs up the minute he answers the phone and its that automated dialer thing!

shimrod- i know what you were saying but i dont think that was the case. the application was made online and we def didnt choose the ppi as i think dh had sone SE by then so wouldnt have needed it?

also we have got dh cca for his egg loan that was made online and that has the box for his signiture, below that the box for ppi, and then the box were egg sign, so i assume that his egg card would be the same and have all 3 boxes as that was made online too??

Prseumably you don't need (or can't use) the ppi? IN which case, you will need to cancel it to stop further payments. You might also want to read up Martin's article to see if you were missold ppi in the first place.

  • I did a balance transfer this morning from MBNA to my Egg card to take advantage of the anniversary offers. The box did ask if I pay NI to which I ticked yes - further down the page (and I had to scroll down) two further boxes appear - do you want PPI? OR i DO not WANT PPI.
The default setting is of course yes - I am wondering if your husband missed this and pushed the continue button?
  • i can fully see your point inasking that as yes it would have been quite possible to not have accidently signed for it but i am almost positive we didnt but even if we had surely it would feature somewhere in all the paperwork they sent out to us?as they would have to set the ppi terms and conditions out + the amount to pay and obviously our tick box accepting this??
  • woop woop!!:j just called egg (recorded it too!!) and asked them if i had ppi on my credit card would it be on my agreement?the answer if yes! asked it again pretending to be dumb, and yes it will be on credit agreement! then called egg ppi team and asked them were i would find out if i had ppi or not and they also said will be on cca?!!whoop whoop so thats £1,455.25 egg owe my dh!!
  • If it was added later then it would not be on his agreement.
Hope it works out for you - don't spend it till you get it!

I take it that you did not request this insurance then?
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
