8mm camcorder

Ive got a lot of 8mm camcorder tapes of kids when young, these were recorded on a canon camcorder that is not working. Seen lots of 8mm camcorders on ebay etc but not canon ones. Will a sanyo, sony, samsung etc 8mm camcorders play my old tapes. Also want to transfer to DVD, whats best option stand alone dvd recorder or computer

I think 8mm's a standard format, with a standard recording process - so the tapes should, in theory, work in a different make of 8mm camcorder. Preferably one with a USB (or Firewire (aka IEEE 1394 or Sony iLink)) connector that you use on a computer to connect the camcorder to and load up your films and then record to DVD.

You could use a video transfer service, which is what I had to do when my hi8 bit the dust.

I also don't think you'll get an 8mm camcorder that'll have a USB output. Unless it's digital. Are you meaning a standard analogue 8mm/hi8 tape. Hi8 players will play 8mm analogue tapes.

USB video capture devices are dirt cheap off of Ebay, I found this - "EASYCAP USB 2.0 FOR VIDEO DVD TV AUDIO CAPTURE ADAPTER", and the results are very good. I used it to get my VHS-C tapes digitized on my laptop.
