Help my computer wont recognize any external devices

I am a bit of a novice where it comes to computers. The other day my computer decided to play up, so I tried the recovery disk to reboot it. At first I could not get it to work, all I got was sisraid.sys cannot be found. Through messing on the bios I got it running again. Now though none of my external devices i.e, printer, external hard drive will work. I have tried putting the disks for these devices in but that doesnt work. They do not show up on the computer at all (it does not come up 'found new hardware') or in device manager. I have not got a clue as to what to do now. Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

Do you see any USB devices in Device manager?

If not, check in the BIOS (often under Integrated Peripherals) to see if the on-board USB is disabled or set to v1.1 only.

If there are USB devices shown, try deleting them all and rebooting - they should be found and the drivers reinstalled.
