Is a cash card also a debit card?

Please help to settle an arguement 
My OH has a Barclays cashcard account.
I say he cannot use the card as debit card e.g. when paying for the groceries at Lidl; he says he can, but hasn't tried it yet
What do you say ?

I think you are right, even went to check out the Barclays website 'cos you had me wondering. If it is a true cashcard he can not use as a debit card.
I'd insert one of those clicky link things to the page if I new how but all I can do is insert the whole url, I'm not sure the board rules allow for that so I haven't!If anything I say starts to make sense, PANIC!0 -

If the card has a Visa or an Electron sign on it then yes, but if it is a plain old Link card this is definetly not possible.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want?
