Hi all,
In advance... thank you for reading this and your help.
I have recently worked in Australia and now returned to the UK (i am a british citizen). My money i earnt is still sitting in an Australian account, but if i move it to my uk current account... will the uk government tax me. I have already been taxed by the aus govenment.
Does the govenment monitor accounts for money going in and then question where its from???
Thanks for reading and your help...

I'm no expert, but I don't see any reason that you'd be taxed on the capital, unless anyone knows otherwise. It's money earned abroad and taxed abroad, nothing to do with the UK government.
But you will be taxed on any interest earned on it in the UK (just like the rest of us) unless you're a non-taxpayer and register as such.0 -
I know that in the USA, all US citizens have to pay tax in the US on overseas earnings.
Here in the UK though, I believe the UK has tax treaties with most countries, including Australia, ensuring you don't pay tax twice.
I've transferred money from my New Zealand account here several times, and have never had to pay tax on it, although I am a New Zealand citizen, however I don't think that's important. You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.0 -
When I worked abroad I had to sign a disclaimer to say I understood I was liable for my own domestic tax contributions. I checked this with the tax office and they said there was a certain timeframe for liability ie if your out of the country for more than 180 days you dont pay tax in the uk. I cant remember what the timeframe is but you local inland residue should be able to help you.0
