I updated Spybot S&D on Friday to the new 1.6.0. It now appears to be continuously scanning, especially on start up, it shows balloons in bottom right hand corner as if it is continually scanning, is this correct?
Can I turn it off? And will it be safe to do so?
Before upgrade I never had these balloons, are they necessary?
Balloons say something like “process being scanned” and give a file name.
When finished it says, “new processes have been scanned”
There is an icon in the bottom tool tray that when mouse hovered over says, “spybot is resident, 283740 known ratings available, 148354 processes blacklisted”.
I already have AVG as resident and it does not keep popping up balloons!
Do I need 2 residents?
Have just opened AVG and spybot balloon popped up saying “new processes have been scanned” it even does it when I open spybot!
I can turn off the balloons, but the resident will still keep running? Is it needed?
I normally manually scan once a week with Ad-Aware,spybot.AVG, SuperAntiSpyware, Windows Defender.
Any recommendations as to settings for Spybot?

Open Spybot, go to Mode, tick Advanced, accept warning, then Tools (bottom left), click Resident (left column).
Make sure Tea Timer is unticked.
Tea Timer scans all changes to the Registry.
Personally I never use it.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

I don't think that it's good advice to disable the Tea Timer functionality, as this is protecting your machine from unauthorised registry changes.
If you right click on the Spybot icon in the system tray, you can uncheck "Show info balloons" if it bothers you. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

OK have done that, it has now removed the icon from the bottom tool tray, is that right?
Resident in that list remains ticked, is that right?
Do I still now have 2 residents? i.e. AVG and Spybot? as said above AVG is resident, do I need both? if not which one should I use as resident?

No because you have now disabled the resident Spybot Tea Timer functionality!
AVG and Spybot are trying to achieve different things and give protection in different ways. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Yes I did mention that in my OP, but what about the other points in the OP?
There is a teatimer in the start up menu, which if I remember correctly was ticked yesterday, but but is not ticked now! has it become unticked because I have unticked the teatimer in SpybotDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Dear all,
I upgraded to the latest version of Spybot yesterday. When I ran a scan it took approximately 5 hours to complete. Under the previous version, the scan was complete in under 45 minutes. Has anyone any idea why the new version has taken so long to scan the hard drive?
Many thanks for your advice.
