I think the government grants were faded out. We've had both cars converted (around £1500 per vehicle 3 years ago) and we've been very pleased with the results - one is an 1.8i BMW 5 series tourer (N reg) which does around 8K and the other is a 3.0i Vauxhall Omega (R reg) which does around 16K a year.

It was fun getting the Asda credit card promo guy confused yesterday as he couldn't work out why I said I didn't use petrol or diesel but I was a driver and owned a car.......
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

LPG conversions will only work out to be money saving if you intend to keep the car a few years, as pointed out by Raksha above.
You may get reduced road tax if you get it installed by a proff who will give you a certificate - then you can send your V5 into the DVLA and have the tax ammended and even a small refund.
  • Hi there,
I had my 2 Litre Kia converted in 2006 and I am not sorry, you do lose a bit of boot space, but it depends on the size of tank you get, the bigger, the more it holds, but even though I enquired I did not get a grant. you do get a certificate for insurance purposes and on my system you do have to have a small amount of petrol in the fuel tank because it auto clicks over if you run out of gas or vice versa and on its last service cost approx £70 which included a filter, but I can get gas for 50-55p a litre.

I did my home work - It took ages cos no one had put all the information in one spot. I then found a good conversion specialist and he did the entire job for me. I liked it so much I started a blog to give people all the information in one place to make it easier. Just log on to my blog at http://www.lpgguru.co.uk/ and everything you need to know is there. If you have any questions just leave me a question.
I converted my 1.6 l toyota corrola and have not regretted it at all! I liked it so much i binned my old n reg corrola and bought a verso 1.8 and converted that too! I am saving 33% on petrol and there is guy near me who sells it 48 p per litre. I am saving 98 quid a month basically. It will pay back in about 14 months as I do 20 000 miles a year!
