Play.com have the SKYPE Voip USB Mobile Phone Style for £17.99 delivered -
RRP: £34.99 save: £17.00 (48%)
http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=stts9&page=title&r=GADG&title=653863#

Not sure what the quality of this one is like - I know that the quality of this one is pretty good: http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=GADG&title=615520&p=439&g=539&pa=sr

So if the quality of the first one is similar this might be a decent buy?

If you prefer headphones for Voip (Skype) Play also have these Sennheiser ones for less than half price: (£17.99)

  • I also found this phone (handheld) for under £20 (which they claim is half price..) http://www.3-speech.com/iphone.html

I am trying to decide between 3 alternatives for SKype:

    1) Headset (like the Sennheiser one above) cost £18

    2) Handheld Phone (Like the 2 above) £18 /£29

    3) Actiontec internet phone wizard: £40
(lets you use your normal home phone for Skype - including a cordless phone, which I already have) although I have read that the sound quality won't be as good as using a headset with microphone?
    http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?quicklinx=3NPN

Can any Skype users let me know which is the better of these 3 options in terms of ease of use and sound quality, etc? Thanks!

So far I have only used a cheap web cam (not for a picture, but for the built in microphone) to talk on Skype - while I can hear the other person okay (not great) through my PC speakers they have trouble hearing me (probably because the little microphone on the webcam is not good quality) - also is it possible to have a video chat with Skype? (webcam picture and voice)?

I use Skype for a French/ English language exchange with someone in France so the voice quality needs to be as good as possible (otherwise I might as well just use a normal phone for 1p a minute..)

    Thanks!

If you need to keep in touch with friends or family in other countries and those people have a decent (preferably broadband) connection (they will also need to download Skype), then yes, it's good - free phone calls of suprisingly good quality and it's very easy to use, although you can probably do the same thing with voice and/or video conversations on msn messenger, yahoo messenger, etc.

I bought this phone from Playcom (£17.99) last week which appears identical to the Aria model and indeed several others under different badges including one on the Skype shop. Sound quality is reasonable but perhaps not as good as decent headset and of course is not 'hands free' when in use.
Found that the software on the Skype site for their clone phone was compatible and,for me, an improvement on that supplied on the CD.
