I have recently bought the alba dvd recorder (rdvd1002) from argos and connected it up to my tv. but now every time i turn on my tv it switches on to av automatically. i can of course switch back to regular channels but it is extremely annoying. i used to have a mico espejo r311 dvd recorder before i gave it away to a friend. when i connected that, i did not have this problem. i have connected the alba dvd recorder using a scart cable. please could somebody help. i am not sure if i need to make a change to the dvd recorder or to the tv. also, is it normal for the dvd recorder to be making quite a loud rumbling noise when it is on?
thank you
p.s i am not too bothered about the noise but more of the channel changing.

The A/V autoswitching is done by pin 8 on the scart plug. Snipping this off should sort your problem out.

thank you. do i snip off pin8 from both sides?
is there anything else that oculd go wrong? i do not understand completely, but couldn't this prevent the dvd recorder from turning itself on when a timer is set?
thanks - i just want to be sure before i go round cutting things off!0 -

Other than switching the TV into A/V mode, the only other thing that might be altered is that your TV may not select the correct aspect ratio (i.e. 16:9 widescreen or 4:3 'normal') for whatever you may be watching on the Alba DVD recorder. The idea of snipping pin 8 is so that the voltage 'trigger' does not reach your TV from the Alba. So as long as there is no pin 8 connection between the two you don't need to cut both sides of the lead, although doing so won't cause any problems.thank you. do i snip off pin8 from both sides?

No it won't effect the timer setting on the Alba at all. If you want peace of mind before cutting the lead. Just set the timer on the Alba to record somthing in a few minutes time. Then remove the scart lead altogether. You should see the Alba switch on and go into record mode without any lead present!
