Can anyone tell me if it makes a difference if your place of residence is private. My situation is that in the last 5 and a half years I have commuted to two different stations from my private house, both for under 2 years i.e. Private residence to Duty Stn at Benson for less than 2 years and then later on to Bicester for 13 months, during which i received HTD for both. Am I eligible to claim?
Thanks0 -
I believe that it is possible for you to claim. I might be wrong I have a few mates that have got their claims paid and they are living at their own homes. I'm still waiting on my reply. what I would say is fill out the form and they will tell you yes or no.
Good luck:oCurrent Debt £38,000:o

I am a TA soldier and a tax accountant, the correct position is that tax relief can be claimed for all travel including HDT for armed forces on the difference paid up to £0.40 for the first 10,000 miles per year after this limit the tax free amount drops to £0.25.
There was a link posted to HMRC but the correct manual was not posted, you should refer to EIM50120.
The tax is reclaimed using a P87.
Travelling expenses
Service Regulations provide for reimbursement of all travelling expenses, including travelling from the reservist's home to the duty centre where this exceeds one mile.
Where a private motor vehicle is used, the regulations enable the reservist to claim the appropriate travelling allowance, provided the use of the motor vehicle has been authorised by the commanding officer. Relief for business travel in an employee's own vehicle is given under the statutory authorised mileage allowance payments scheme.0 -
With the reductions in mileage payment amounts recently you should now get more tax relief!I am NOT a mortgage & insurance adviser - or anything to do with finance, that was put on by the new system I dont know why?!0

That's really helpful but does it include regular personnel also? I fill in a tax return for rental income, can I just include the mileage info on there as well? Hope you can help! What TA do you do?0 -
