Replacing back boiler with conventional

Options
Got a quote for replacing a Baxi Bermuda back boiler with a conventional boiler (Ideal Icos HE18). This includes:

Removing old boiler, installing new one in kitchen, new hot water cylinder, new programmer and thermostatic valves on 5 radiators.

£2670 excluding VAT, £3150 including VAT.

First quote. Is it reasonable? Good value? Poor value?

Thank you!

Good morning: Does the quote include a powerflush and notification to Building Control? Have you checked the installer's CORGI registration? My OH (plumber/CORGI) isn't a fan of Ideal boilers:eek: ...he installs Vaillant and Viessmann products. The price would be reasonable down here in the southeast if it included a powerflush, notification and a better boiler. More quotes are in order from CORGIs recommended to you by sources you trust.

    Thanks Canucklehead!

I am in Surrey. The cost includes "cleansing of the system" so maybe this is a powerflush? The plumber is CORGI registered. They seem like a legitimate company - I assume building control notification is needed. This isn't mentioned in the quote but I assume it will be done.

Yeah, not heard of Ideal before! Valiant, Potterton are the ones I know.

Hi...you're welcome. You're in my OH's stomping grounds then;) . Ideal has been making boilers for many years but somehow they have lost the plot (the OH did install them at one time) Make sure your written quote is full specification...also using a CORGI who isn't VAT registered (and many sole traders aren't) should bring down the price.

    Thanks for the info :)

So do you think it's better to go for different brand boiler? Any advice on what are the best value ones?

How's the quote pricewise? I'm told the work will take approx 3-5 days.

    Thank you!

Good afternoon: Go with a Worcester, Vaillant or Viessmann..as I said previously, price would be reasonable if one of the above boilers was specified plus the other details I suggested in my other post (the OH has completed similar jobs in the Banstead/ Kingston U.T areas for similar cost). The install would take my OH 4- 5 days dependent on site requirements...some CORGIs will work faster but he doesn't like to cut corners.;)

    Good luck.

I am supposed to be getting an Ideal Icos 18 under the Warm Front grant, but I am finding loads of stuff about them saying they aren't reliable. I have contacted the company that is going to fit it, saying I want a choice of boilers, they day I don't have a choice. I am waiting for the manager to get back to me. Everyone is saying they are no good. On one forum someone said Ideal boilers are like a pension fund to gas engineers. Ilona
