Most econmonical petrol car?
I currently have a '05 clio, which is reasonable on petrol. However I do a long commute which is a mixtures of windy country roads and motorways. I don't need anything big, the clio suits fine size wise. Is there a more economical alternative? I would prefer to buy a car around 10 months old - not brand new.

So you want to save money? Why would you want to pay around £100 per month in depreciation plus interest on any loan needed?
How much will a 10 month old car save you?Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0 -
The most economical car is the VW Polo or Seat Ibiza 1.4D 74.3 mpg
the most economical petrol id the Toyota Aygo @ 61.4mpg.
But as has been implied by the previous poster that is not the whole story.
By the way a quick google would have given these figures.

Thanks guys. I had though about thecosts of exchange. I usually only keep cars for a few years as I find there is a point where the costs and hassles of repairs are not worth it to me. But maybe I will need to do some more sums. I always buy outright, so interest not a consideration, other than a loss on the savings interest.0
