Going to see a few cars this afternoon and just after a few tips like what is the best discount i should try and get.

Also do they match the same APR that a loan would give me?

Any other tips would be great

If you are going for finance just make sre you know the APR as well as the interest rate.

Take a good look at the finance paperwork and fully understand the Total Amount Payable including any arrangement fees etc. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING ON THE PREMISES UNTIL YOU HAVE FULLY UNDERSTOOD THE PAPERWORK, take it home and read slowly in your own time if necessary.

Take a look on Parkers for the price so you have a good ballpark figure.

Scrutinise Warranties, is it only valid back at their garage or can you use a main dealer for any repairs?

Go for the small victories too, Supaguard, full tank of fuel, Air Con regas, CD changer, Tax anything to make you think you have got a good deal (even though he has made a packet out of you :) )
  • Don't get hooked up entirely on APR's....you can low APR's but be paying over the odds for the car...it can sometimes work out better long term to get the car price down to the min' possible then find the best APR elsewhere to help you buy the car. Don't buy a car just because it's being advertised with a great-looking APR.

A low APR is balanced off by a higher asking price.

Pointless having an attractive looking APR if you are paying £2-£4k more for the actual vehicle than you could get it for, as you are borrowing more money which makes an attractive APR less palatable once the long term figures are calculated. ..if that makes sense!

Always look at the overall deal and always see the car and the finance as two separate products (which they are!).
