United uilities have taken almost £200 on a direct debit I had already cancelled and which incidentally I don't even owe them! They have apologised and have promised refund 'within 28 days' They have left me with no money in my account and up a certain creek without a paddle, having had plans for today
So I called bank quoted dd guarantee expecting immediate refund from them (have had similar before and money was put back straight away) only to be told no can do because its a weekend. So are they only compelled to comply during the week then??
I know I will get my money back on Mon but am so  plans will now have to be cancelled and my daughter is going to be upset

The real issue i would have is with United Utiliites and the 28 day rubbish.
I am with Atlantic gas/elec and any money they owe me, overpayments, is returned to my bank account in 2/3 working days after my request to return.0 -
Sorry but I'm sure you don't work 7 days a week - business days are Monday to Friday.
Just think if there was no DD indemnity scheme - how long you would have to wait?0 -
Did you cancel the DD with United Utilities or the bank ?
I know it's inconvenient but I think it's reasonable enough for you to wait til the next business day (tomorrow) for your bank to look into the matter. Do you really expect them to refund people without checking ? It would quickly lead to widespread abuse if they did.0
