Scottish University for English student

A young relative of mine is taking her A-levels next summer and really wants to go to Edinburgh Uni. She wants to go to an open day this September.

Nobody else in the family has been to uni before. I was just wondering if anyone knows, would the uni be biased against English students, preferring to take Scottish ones? We are not used to the admissions process and she is getting very little advice from her school. It will cost quite a bit to go up for the open day, due to the distance, and if there's little chance of acceptance it wouldn't be worth it.

Anyone know?

No, there will be no problem. There are lots of English students at Scottish universities, especially Edinburgh and St Andrews.

Although it's nice to go to Open Days it's by no means essential and, if money's tight, your relative could either give it a miss or at least wait until s/he's been offered a place, before investing the time/money in a visit.

I'm at Edinburgh Uni and there are LOADS of english students there, so I'm sure she will get in ok if her grades are good. As Oldernotwiser said, you don't have to go to the Open Days, but it might help her to get a "feel" for the place before she goes if she's never been to Edinburgh before.
