New flat, TV signal/aerial?

Just moved into a new flat and unsure as to what's going on with signal and/or the aerial.
Plugged a coax cable from TV to the socket in the wall and no picture, unable to tune so Im assuming there is no aerial.
Although directly outside is a sky dish. Now I dont have sky but what would be the best way for me to get tv?Desperate to get some TV especially with the olympics!
Would freesat work for me? Just plug freesat box into the socket in the wall which I think is connected to the dish and away we go, or is it more complicated than that?

Questions for you
1 your flat or rented
2 TV into wall socket, ok, new TV can auto tune. Is this your first time at tuning, Is this a terestial tuner, Is this a TV or plasma /LCD type
3 Why do you think a sat. dish on the wall belongs to you and why does it feed a normal coaxial socket, they are different.
3 What are you jumping to free sat
4 Its not complicated, but you are making it ...
Start again. You want to watch BBC right? What are the people next door doing. Do you all subscribe to sky. Is there an 'F' style connector on the wall.
Call your landlord and ask a few questions. Get a local answer. Sorry0 -
As the previous poster said, it depends whether the Sky dish is wired into your flat. A sky socket is different to a conventional aerial socket, it's normally a cylindrical socket with threads on the outside and a small hole in the centre. If you do have a Sky socket, freesat should work fine and is v. simple to use. Otherwise, you're either looking at getting an aerial installed (£100 - £150 in my area), or (depending on signal strength) buying an indoor aerial/booster for your TV.0

Hi :cheesy:
I'm just moving into a new flat too. I've ordered a sky installation. It's a communal dish. I borrowed a friend's tv to the wall tv socket and I got poor pictures. I then used a booster aerial and the picture was fine. I then got my own tv (cathode ray) and the picture quality is poor even with the booster aerial.
Should the sky installation give me excellent quality pictures anyway or does the above poor pictures mean that my sky pictures after the installation will also be dodgy?

1.It's a rented flat.
2.This quite an old Sanyo TV, tried tuning but to no avail. Got it for free from a friend. Just a normal 28" with a huge backside to it.
3.The sky dish is mine, previous tenant had sky so I'm therefore assuming the dish directly on the other side of the wall to the socket is mine.
4. re the sky dish. I was just wondering if that socket I had was the sky socket, could I just plug a free sat box into it and start watching tv, or is it more complicated. But as you say the coax is not used by sky so I'm confused!
Maybe I'll give another go at tuning it but like I said I get the feeling there is no terrestrial aerial.0
