Do you get an error message on screen: I looked my error code up in Google for my Sony and found some useful tips, that meant I didn't have to send it away.

The fix for mine, was to remove the battery and bang the camera hard, very hard - apparently they're very susceptible to getting dirt on sensors, which causes errors like this...

The quote for fixing it was more than a new camera, so I thought, nothing to lose really?

    Hi,

The camera shop (that repair all models of camcorder) that was recommended to me was Newton & Ellis in Liverpool; http://www.newtonellis.co.uk/; It only cost about £15 to post the camera SD, which was cheaper than any car journey to the nearest repairer...

When I realised it was possible I was not going to get the camera working; I used this firm - http://www.transfervideo.com/ - and they transferred my tapes to DVD. Quite reasonably priced too, and did an excellent job!
