Car Written Off - Insurance Due

Hoping someone may know the answer to my question, my car was written off at the end of June, someone reversed into it scrapping bumper and rear wing, nothing too major, but due to its age was classed as a Cat C, (uneconomical to repair). I've just had the VIC check done on it, and its going for an MOT on Monday, but what happens when I come to insure it again in September, will I only be able to get 3rd party, or can I get fire & theft? Do I declare that it was written off, or will they know this? (if I decide to change ins. company) Sorry if this sounds a silly question, but I find this situation confusing!! :o:confused::o Thanks in advance :D

Just insure it normally they will know that it has been a write off. The only problem might come if you write it off again (they will claim the value is less because it was written off before).

I have insured two CAT Ds without issue (mind you have not had a claim on either).

I drove a Cat D car for about 6years. Didn't realise until I came to sell it!!

I had HPI'd it when I bought it but it came up clear :(

I had to drop the price considerably to sell it. It was only the strength of 6 successful MOT passes which persuaded the buyer to continue with the sale.

I was fully comp and paid the norm insurance premium throughout the time I owned the car. That included a couple of changes of Insurance companies. I was completely unaware of any history of damage to the car.

Once you've got the fresh MOT along with the VIC you should be able to insure the car at whatever level of cover you require. However, in some cases the insurer may limit cover to third party only until they see the MOT and VIC documents.
