Anyone using AOL for VPN connection? Router recommendation please

Hi all
My VPN connection keeps falling over and I have been advised to try changing the router as this may be the source of the problem.
If anyone out there is with AOL and accesses their work PC via a VPN I'd be grateful if you could let me know which router you use (or would avoid) and if having an ethernet connection rather than a USB makes a difference.
