I have just got my third (defective) usb wireless connector from PC World. Each time I return it I have to drive a round trip of 25 miles. Am I entitled to any compensation from them please? This time I will be asking for a refund!

Shame really-I am sure that I heard on BBC Watchdog that you could but I cannot find anything about it so I am assuming I either misheard or they got it wrong!

PC World pay petrol expenses only if you write to HO. They don't take into account depreciation, servicing, wear and tear or your time. They will probably offer you x for petrol and say that a cheque will be in the post. However when the letter arrives you'll probably find that the cheque has been replaced by a gift vocuher. The man without a signature.0

Unless you can show the issue is due to their neglience then no
Compensation allows someone to be restored to their original position when a duty of care has been failed
If PC world have done something wrong fair enough, otherwise its unfortunate and you have no rights beyond the consumer ones to a repair/replacement/refund0 -
Are you sure there isnt anything wrong with your pc?
3 Defective cards makes me think that they are not at fault but the pc.
Unless its a faulty batch, have you tried another brand?
Also shouldnt it be the Maker of the usb card that pays your costs, its not PCW's fault that they are faulty.0 -
I worked for Sainsburys many years ago & I seem to remember that we were instructed to refund travel costs if asked. Its always worth asking for.Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0

The first was not Vista compatible-they said it was but the website said the drivers were coming soon. The second oveheated rapidlyand the third-my fault for getting it in the first place-was preowned. They assured me it worked.I should have asked them to test it there and then but I was in a hurry.0

It would not be a negligence claim but a breach of contract claim. The rules of damages are different and restitutionary remedies are not applicable.
The claimaint is entitled to be put in the position he would have been in had the contract been performed correctly (ie. not to have paid out for petrol expenses).0
